From 7th January 2020 Stratford Chess Club will be moving to Foundation House - 1st Floor, 144 Mason’s Road, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 9NF.

You may recall, at the beginning of September, our Club membership fees were drastically increased because the Home Guard Club began charging commercial room hire rates for the use of the function room. The room hire was in addition to the Home Guard Club’s own membership fees.  

Regrettably, although the Home Guard Club is in many ways a perfect venue for playing chess, we do not have the funds to keep on paying at the rate required, and which is under further review in January. 

The committee has therefore been looking for other venues in Stratford and are delighted to report that they have secured a suitable space at Foundation House.

The club will from January meet and play all League and friendly games from 7.30 each Tuesday evening at Foundation House. 

Our new Club Room will be 'The Engine Room', on the first floor of Foundation House. The Engine Room will comfortably seat 20 people and is fully accessible, with a lift from the entrance hall. There are also several communal spaces available for friendly games.

The premises are not licensed but tea/coffee is available at a small charge. Free parking is on the premises at the front of the building. 

Note: The entrance has to be kept locked in the evenings so please do not arrive before 7.10 pm and on arrival ring ‘our’ white doorbell to gain access. The Club will be given a number of security key fobs to access the building and we will be looking at allocating these in the best way possible.
