RE: Rules of Chess

Arising from the Secretary's Report to the Leamington League AGM there was debate about avoidance of disputes, and the Committee decided to make the following requests:

i) Clubs are asked to display and/or have available for consultation during matches, should the need arise, LDCL Rules of Matchplay & FIDE Laws of Chess.
ii) Clubs are asked to remind players, and particularly team captains, that they need to be familiar with, and adhere to, the League’s Rules of Matchplay and the Laws of Chess.
(nb the Laws can be found at www.fide.com  - from the Homepage click the FIDE Handbook hotlink, and the Laws of Chess hotlink is listed in section E.Miscellaneous!

The Laws of Chess reference  PDF file containing the essential Articles and Appendix D.Quickplay finishes where no arbiter is present in the venue can be downloaded from the Stratford Chess Club downloads page.

Because there is no arbiter present at LDCL matches, nor can captains jointly act as arbiters once a match has begun and they are engrossed in playing their own games, we are all reliant on common sense, good faith and a sense of fair play for the smooth running of matches.
