I am delighted to report that Stratford Chess Club was well represented in the trophies once again this year at the Leamington League AGM, held last night at Olten Chess Club.

As the previous season closed a decisive win against Daventry in the U120 KO final secured the trophy for the second concurrent time for Stratford’s first U120 KO team. Well done team.

Adrian Grimes and Peter Stiff shared success and the trophy in the Individual U100 KO.

A rather brilliant performance by Ben Larkin in the Lightning has earnt him notable standing in the Midlands chess community. Ben also has a nice trophy to pick up for winning the minor section. Well done Ben!

At the AGM a few rule changes were proposed and passed, and these will need to be conveyed to the club before the start of the new season.

As an update on summer chess and club activities. The committee has decided to take a summer recess following the registration day on 2nd July, with the intention of reopening again in August.

After July 2nd there will be no club nights until further notice. We aim to use this time not only to sort out the club’s financial position but to organise some activities for August. I understand this will be disappointing for many people and I assure you it is not a decision we have taken lightly.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
