Too Much Golf by Carl Hibbard
Stratford Chess Club
Home I hate to do this to Jonathan (well not really!) but here is a very short contribution
Members
I would not normally sink as low as publishing this but after Jonathan beat me in
the club quickplay with a profound single move knight fork combination I feel I can
just about get away with it?

This game emphasizes what can happen in retirement if you spend too much of your
spare time playing golf and not enough time on the Internet Chess Club trying to
  improve your chess....

  Ladder Game - 11/07/2002
  White:- Carl Hibbard
  Black:- Jonathan Rashleigh

  1. d4 d5
I don't normally play 1. d4 but then Jonathan has gone all aggressive recently so
something a little quieter is probably the key

  2. c4 e6
  3. Nc3 c5
Okay so it is a Tarrasch which is a refreshing change if you actually play 1. d4

  4. Nf3 Nc6
  5. Bf4 cxd4 for some reason the books critisise my move but I am not sure why?
  6. Nxd4 Qb6

This is going too far with the aggressive style and perhaps 6..... Bb4 is better

  7. Ndb5 Bc5
  8. e3 d4

So things are getting a little desperate now but 8..... e5 fills the scoresheet
with far more moves if you feel you need to do that sort of thing

  9. Bc7 Qa6 to be fair Jonathan did resign here thinking his queen was trapped

I would not let him however and pointed out the excellent 'a6' square

  10. exd4 Bb4
  11. d5 Na5 and Resigns 1-0

The final position is so bad it deserves a diagram doesn't it:-

Naturally I just play 12. Be5 and it is time to put the pieces in the box before
  someone comes and watches

I hope you enjoyed this more than the new league chairman!
